Why would my child need to see the counselor?

Children see the counselor for a variety of reasons. Some children are referred by teachers to discuss classroom behavior strategies or because they are having difficulty with peer interactions. Some children are referred by their parents due to difficulties they are experiencing at home that may be impacting the school day. Often children self-refer to the counselor for difficulties they may be having. If you are wondering whether your child may benefit from seeing the counselor, just ask!

How do I refer my child to the counselor?

Referrals can be made by parents, teachers, administrators and students by contacting Stephanie Hager via email at stephanie.hager@lakeviewacademy.org.

How many times may my child see the counselor?

In regards to individual sessions, the policy at Lakeview is that the school counselor can see your child up to three (3) times. If further counseling is needed, your child will be referred to outside resources. The school counselor at Lakeview will then collaborate with the outside resources to ensure students’ needs are being met.

Are counseling sessions confidential?

Counseling sessions are confidential. However, at times, it may be necessary for the counselor to share educationally relevant information with teachers and staff at Lakeview Academy. Only information that is relevant to enhancing then child’s educational functioning and well-being will be shared. Lakeview administrators will also be notified when an outside referral is recommended. No information will be shared outside Lakeview Academy without a written release of information.
There are exceptions to confidentiality, including the following:
