Standardized Testing

Lakeview administers the Educational Records Bureau’s Comprehensive Testing Program IV (CTP IV) to students in grades 3 through 8. This standardized test provides the school and parents information about how students compare to other students in the nation (national norm) and other challenging independent schools (independent school norm). These scores are shared with parents when they are received at the end of each year and are used by the faculty and administration to assess and improve instruction.

Lakeview also administers the Educational Records Bureau’s Writing Assessment Program (WrAP) which provides a direct measure of writing ability to students in grades 4 ,6 and 8. Students produce a writing sample in response to a writing prompt The WrAP is scored analytically and uses the six-trait, six point rubric to provide information and feedback that can help target instruction in writing. The grade levels include:
  • Elementary (grade 4) Narrative Mode
  • Intermediate (grade 6) Informative/Explanatory Mode
  • Middle (grade 8) Expository/Explanatory Mode or Persuasive/Argument Mode
The Pre-ACT test is given to ninth and tenth graders and the PSAT test to tenth and eleventh graders as preparation for the ACT and SAT, respectively. In some cases, scores may also qualify students for special programs or scholarships offered by the sponsoring organizations. Scores are reported to the student, Lakeview, and schools designated by the student.

Students in Advanced Placement (AP) courses are required to take the AP test at the end of the year in which the course is taken. Scores are reported to the student, Lakeview, and schools designated by the student.

Each spring, the SAT and ACT are taken by juniors at Lakeview and the SAT is taken at Lakeview in the fall by seniors. Students can also make their own arrangements to take the ACT and SAT, if they choose to take the test multiple times:  (www.actstudent.org or www.collegeboard.com).
