    Senior Wins Community Art Project

    Congratulations to Lakeview senior, Jordan Thomas, for winning the Spring 2022 Sherwood Art Project Competition. The Northeast Georgia Health System sponsored the Vision 2030 Public Art project and Jordan's creation, "Gainesville in 3 Frames," will be installed in early July on the system's display windows at Sherwood Plaza in Gainesville and will remain until January. The Vision 2030 Public Art Committee was formed to create opportunities for artists in conjunction with the growth of the community.

    Noah Caplan accepts his award during the Shuler Awards presentation

    Lakeview Senior Wins Best Featured Performer at GA High School Musical Theatre Awards

    Lakeview Academy senior Noah Caplan was named the winner in the Featured Performer category at the prestigious Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards – The Shuler Hensley Awards.  Caplan won for his role as the enthusiastic but misguided seer in the Broadway hit musical “Something Rotten.” Last year’s Leading Actor Winner, Ari Mikels, presented, and Davison Filson, and Ensemble members Anderson Cheek and McClairin Garmon performed.

    Lakeview Receives Several GA High School Musical Theatre Award Nominations

    Congratulations to Lakeview's Georgia High School Musical Theatre Award nominees for their work in "Something Rotten": Davison Filson (Best Performance by Leading Actor), Noah Caplan (Best Performance by a Featured Performer), cece Conrath, Joe Harris and Rane Hoge (Scenic Design), Jamey Hoge and Kaitlin Jameson (Sound), and Cece Conrath, Amy Brock, and Emily McWhorter (Costumes). In addition, Ari Mikels received an Honorable Mention (Best Performance by a Supporting Performer). Winners will be announced in April.

Kudos also go to Lakeview’s region champion Literary team for placing third at the GHSA State Literary Meet at Buford High School today. Lakeview students performed at a STELLAR level and placed in EVERY EVENT in which they competed. State results:

  • Students Win Scholarships and Prizes for Art

    Various art students at Lakeview Academy were awarded a combined $20,600 in cash prizes and scholarships in recent competitions:

    Claire Morgan was awarded a renewable scholarship for up to four years from Brenau University for her etching, “Cemetery.”

    The Public Art Committee for Vision 2030, Free Range Awards selected Ella Lawlor's digital artwork, "Farm," and Jordan Thomas' painting, "The 50 State Flowers" to be reproduced in an 8-foot format to be installed in the community next year. Both received a cash prize. 

    Several students were awarded Honorable Mention at the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, SCAD including Bennett Kilroy for his photography piece, “Playdough” and Jordan Thomas' painting, “The 50 State Flowers”. In addition, Ella Lawlor received Honorable Mention from the Kiwanis Art Exhibit, Quinlan Visual Arts Center for her digital art, “Trail."

    Eight Upper School choral music students, Hunter Allen, Abigail Baker, McClairin Garmon, Garv Gaur, Vanessa Gay, Emilia Horton, Kathryn McWhorter, and Isabel Sanchez, participated in the Gainesville Music Club festival and won Superior ratings for their performances!
    In addition, the following students placed in the Voice, Art Song Category: 1st Place - Kathryn McWhorter, 2nd place - Garv Gaur, and Honorable Mention - Hunter Allen. In the Voice, Musical Theatre Category: 1st Place- McClairin Garmon, 2nd place - Emilia Horton, and Honorable Mention - Abigail Baker. Congratulations, all!

    Lakeview Academy Region Literary Champion for 17th Time!

    Lakeview Academy was crowned the Region Literary Champion for the 17th time since 2002! Lakeview’s Literary team competed in the GHSA Region 6-A Competition and every student on the team placed either first or second in every event, earning Lakeview enough cumulative points to tie as REGION CHAMPIONS alongside King’s Ridge.     LA students selected for All State Chorus; one for 7 years

    Upper School singers, Noah Caplan, Garv Gaur, and Kathryn McWhorter, were selected to participate in the All State Chorus. The All State Chorus is "a statewide choral event that takes place...in Athens, GA. The top 7th-12th grade students in the state are selected through an audition process." In addition, Garv was recognized for having been selected to All State Chorus in each year of his middle and high school years. Only about 35 students in Georgia have achieved this honor. The students participated in three different choirs of about 250 singers each- Garv in the All State Reading Chorus and all three in the All State Chorus. Noah was also chosen for a speaking part.

    Congratulations to Morgan Borrow, Avanthi Katkoori, and Dani Kirkley for being selected to participate in the Georgia Music Educators' Association (GMEA) Sixth Grade Statewide Honor Choir. It was the first time Lakeview students participated in the event and they represented the school well. It was held in Athens February 17-18.

  • Lakeview's cast and crew of “Spamalot” performed two shows for OVER 4,500 audience members

    Lakeview Thespians Bring Down the House at ThesCon

    At the 2022 Georgia Thespian Conference, Lakeview's cast and crew of Spamalot performed two shows for over 4,500 audience members! In addition, Ian Johnson, Sarah Kennedy and Jonathan Suo were a part of the All-State Theatre Cast and Crew that performed in the conferences' opening closing ceremonies. Noah Caplan represented Lakeview and served as one of only eight State Thespian Officers, (STO). Anderson Cheek will serve as a STO during the 2022-23 school year. McClairin Garmon, Caroline Gottsman, Anderson Cheek, Sarah Kennedy, Nobi Roberts, Kathryn McWhorter, Noah Caplan, Ari Mikels, and Davison Filson earned overall SUPERIORS and Ari and Davison's act was one of only 10 selected to perform in the closing Thespy Showcase. Davison was one of twelve senior thespians who earned a performance scholarship to be used at the school of his choice.

    Several Lakeview Upper School students were selected to participate in the Georgia Music Educators' Association All State Reading Chorus and All State Chorus. Congratulations to Garv Gaur for being selected for the All State Reading Chorus and to Noah Caplan, Garv Gaur, and Kathryn McWhorter for being selected for the All State Chorus. The auditions to be chosen are very difficult. Garv represented Lakeview at the All State Reading Chorus in late January and the All State Chorus will be February 17-19, 2022.

    The artwork from several Lakeview students was accepted into the 2021-2022 All State Art Symposium to be hosted by Columbus State University on February 25. Bennett Kilroy's, "Playdough" (Photography), Ella Lawlor's "Farm" (Digital Art) and "Pan" (Digital Art), and Maggie Abboud's "I" (Digital Art) were four of only 100 selected by a panel of judges to be included from an initial 1,600 submissions.

    At the State Georgia Thespian LeadCon this past weekend in Houston County, Anderson Cheek was elected as a 2022-2023 State Thespian Officer.  She will join eight other students from schools around the state who will work as arts advocates, student leaders, and theatre outreach ambassadors from February 2022-February 2023, including helping to plan the entire state conference.
