Laptop/Tablet Program

Lakeview Academy implemented a laptop program in the Upper School in 1998 and in the Middle School in 2010. We believe these programs provide Lakeview with a significant advantage in achieving its goals and giving each student a competitive edge. Our emphasis has been on staff development and training, infrastructure and curriculum integration.

  • Q: When does the laptop program begin?

    The laptop program begins in the 3rd grade with classrooms laptops. In middle school, the students are issued laptops in the same way that they are issued textbooks, and in upper school, the students own or lease their tablets.
  • Q: How much does the laptop cost?

    Lower School, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will be charged an annual fee to cover their books, supplies, digital resources, and Lenovo 300E tablet (3rd grade), Yoga N23 tablet (4th and 5th grades), which includes a Microsoft Office 365 account, required software and licenses, service, warranty, and damage protection. This year the fee is $110.00

    Middle School students will be charged a Technology Fee of $390.00. The Middle School Technology fee will cover the use of their laptop, a Microsoft Office 365 account, required software and licenses, service, warranty, and damage protection.

    For new Upper School students this year, the total cost of the Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga X380 2 in 1 Notebook is $1649.00. This includes the laptop, a Microsoft Office 365 account, required software and licenses, Webroot Anti-Virus/Anti Malware Software Cisco Umbrella Web Filter Software, 4 Year Extended Service, and Accidental Damage Protection.

    We also offer a lease/purchase option…this year the cost will be a $300 deposit plus $61.32 per month for 24 months.
  • Q: Can I buy a computer on my own and use it at Lakeview?

    The purchase of the laptop is part of a coordinated laptop program. Each machine will be imaged and configured with the same drivers, software, network, Internet and wireless settings. Attempts in the past by parents wanting to purchase laptops on their own have been unsuccessful.
  • Q: When do we pay for the laptop?

    Upper school students are expected to pay for the laptop before taking ownership. If it is billed to your Lakeview account, it will appear on the first statement of the new school year. The middle school laptop usage fee will be billed to your Lakeview account on the first statement of the new school year.
  • Q: When is the model selected for the next year?

    The laptop is usually selected in March-April for the following school year. We try to wait as late as possible to get the latest generation laptops at the best price.
  • Q: What types of software are used in the Upper School?

    Technology is used throughout the Upper School to enhance student learning. Some examples of Upper and Middle School programs are listed below:

  • Q: What should I do if I damage or have a problem with my laptop?

    Lakeview Academy has an award-winning, laptop repair service, with offices located in the upper school, room 416, and in the middle school, room 514. A laptop can usually be repaired within an hour. Since most physical damage is covered in the warrantee this repair is usually at no cost to the student and if needed loaner laptops are also available at no cost to the student.
