  • Q: How do Middle School students organize their books and supplies?

    Storage
    Singleton Hall (the Middle School building) utilizes cubbies for students to store their jackets, books, bookbags, etc. The cubbies are made of wood, so magnetic items will not work. To keep the cubbies neat for the next user, stickers and other adhesive products are not allowed on the cubbies. The new cubbies with dimensions are shown below.

  • Q: What is Drop-In Day and when is open house?

    Drop-In Day is Lakeview Academy's open house. 

    New families are invited to a New Family Orientation prior to Drop-In on Wednesday, August 15 at 4:15 p.m. in the Student Center.

    Drop-In Day for returning students is Wednesday, August 15 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the sidewalk leading to Singleton Hall (MS building) and between the Ramsey/Hill Hall (LS building) and the Student Center.  Drop-In Day is an opportunity for students and parents to visit their new classrooms, meet their teachers, setup lockers, purchase used uniforms and P.E. attire and register for various school programs, such as transportation, food service, Extended Learning (for Lower School students), and private lessons offered at Lakeview.

    On this same day, all families are invited to the Board of Trustees Annual Meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Center.
  • Q: What forms do I need to complete by the first day of school?

    In Middle School, all students are required to have their online school forms completed BEFORE the beginning of school. You can access these forms via the Lion Portal by logging into the Lakeview website. Required school forms include:
    • Student Health (2018-19)
    • Emergency Contacts (2018-19)
    • Permission to Administer Medication (2018-19)
    • Student & Family Updates reviewed and completed
    • Responsible Technology Use Policy (2018-19)
    • Transportation (2018-19) (for field trips and daily commute)

    Text Books

    Books are distributed to students in the first day or two of class.

    Required Athletic Attire

    Please read and be familiar with the dress code when you are shopping. For athletic clothing needed for class, please refer to the Dress Code section of the Student & Parent Handbook which is listed as a download below this section or you can download and view the Dress Code section here. The Dress Code section begins on page 50 and P.E. clothing requirements are on page 53. P.E. shorts and other garments may be purchased from Athletics on Drop-In Day

    Algebra I Calculators

    For students taking Algebra I (8th grade students), the Ti-Nspire CX handheld model calculator should be purchased by November and remain UNOPENED until the in-class due date. **Important** There is a small square on the back of the package that says "50 Points." Students who arrive to class with their calculators unopened and turn in the "square" will receive 2 extra BONUS points on their Fall Semester EXAM. Further details will appear on the 8th grade Algebra I syllabus so there is no urgency in having the calculator on the first day of school.
  • Q: When will my child receive his/her schedule and cubbie assignment?

    Returning 7th and 8th grade students may pickup their schedules during Drop-In on Wednesday, August 15 or on Thursday, August 16 from 10 AM-12PM,.

    All new middle school students/parents and rising 6th grade students/parents are invited to the school-wide Drop-In Day on Wednesday, August 16.
     
    Schedule of Events for Wednesday, August 15:

    Please note that any new middle school students and all rising 6th grade students will receive their cubbie assignments during the 4:45 PM meeting time.

    If you have completed all the necessary enrollment/re-enrollment forms for the Business Office, you can access your final schedule through the Lion Portal beginning August 1, 2018.

    NOTE: Cubbies and schedules will not be released until all school forms located in the Lion Portal have been completed online.
  • Q: When will Middle School students get their laptops?

    All new-to-Lakeview Middle School and ALL 6th grade students and parents must attend the orientation meeting with Mrs. Snyder in the Student Center on Wednesday, August 15 at 4:45 p.m.

    6th, 7th, and 8th grade students will receive their laptops during their Study Halls, on Wednesday, August 29th, and Thursday, August 30th. Students who are new to the Middle School, (all 6th graders and new 7th and 8th grade students), will also receive a Bump Armor case to protect their laptops. Returning 7th and 8th grade students should bring their Bump Armor case to school on their day of distribution for their laptops. Once laptops have been passed out, students will be led through a disucssion on how to take care of and manage their Yoga laptops, log-onto their school accounts, and access digital resources.
  • Q: Where do I find school uniforms?

    The 2018-2019 Student & Parent Handbook contains all the regulations regarding uniforms and spirit wear. The Dress Code section begins on page 50 or you can download and view the Dress Code section here.

    Purchasing uniforms from vendors

    To allow for variations in sizing, costs and preferences, you may also purchase any of your blank (non-logoed) garments from the vendor, store or catalog of your choice including the LPA's used uniform sales.

    Used Uniform Sale

    In addition, the Lakeview Parent Association (LPA) holds used uniform sales throughout the year. Gently used garments are typically $2 each. The first sale will be during New Family Orientation and Drop-In Day on Wednesday, August 15, 2018.

    Spirit Wear

    Located 1.2 miles from the school at 2480 Limestone Parkway, the Shirt Factory carries spirit wear for all ages and sizes. Their number is 770-532-2453 ext 3.

  • Q: Has the Middle School Daily Schedule changed?

    No. Monday-Friday, classes for Middle School begin at 8:30 a.m. and dismiss at 3:20 p.m. We will have a block schedule on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Periods EFGH will meet on Wednesdays and Periods ABCD will meet on Thursdays.
  • Q: When does school begin and where do I go on the first day?

    The first day of school is Tuesday, August 21 and it is a full day

    The regular morning drop-off will be in place on August 21. Lower School students should be dropped-off via awaiting teachers along the driveway in front of the Lower School building and entrance.  Middle School Students without a Lower School sibling should be dropped off by the Middle Island. Upper School students are typically dropped off at the round-about in the Upper School student parking lot behind Wilheit Hall. 

    Although Middle School begins at 8:30 a.m., Middle School students should report to their A Period classroom on the first day of school by 8:25 a.m. so they will be on time to Convocation. 

    Upper School students should report to the Walters Athletic Center (WAC) on the first day of school by 8:30 a.m. for Convocation which begins at 8:35 a.m. 

    6th graders, 9th graders and new-to-Lakeview Middle and Upper School students will ring the bell after Convocation and the Faculty Greeting to mark their entry into Middle School.  

     Parents are welcome to attend Convocation and the bell ringing.
  • Q: What about breakfast and lunch?

    An optional breakfast will be available to students in the morning prior to the start of most school days.  Students may also bring their own breakfast and eat it in the Student Center prior to school.   
     
    Lunch service will begin on the first day of school, (Tuesday, August 21). Student accounts are billed for the breakfast and lunches served by our food service provider, and students may also bring their own lunches. To find out more about the food service plan, click here.
     
    Breakfast and lunch are not served on half days.
  • Q: What is the role of the advisor in Middle School?

    Each student is assigned an advisor as they enter Middle School. The advisor monitors student’s academic progress, assists in extracurricular choices, and communicates with parents about information and concerns affecting the student.
  • Q: When will I be able to meet with my child's teacher one-on-one?

    You may meet your child's teacher on Drop-In Day.

    One-on-one meetings are scheduled during Parent/Teacher Conferences on October 3 and 4 and again on March 5 and 7 after school. Sign-up information will be made available in October and March.

    Teacher conferences can also be scheduled throughout the year and you may always email the teacher at first name.last name@lakeviewacademy.org.
  • Q: What extracurricular opportunities exist in the Middle School?

    Middle School students are encouraged to be active participants in Lakeview athletics and extracurricular opportunities. Lakeview Middle School competes in blue and white league football, volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, coed swimming, boys and girls tennis, and boys baseball.

    Teams are designed for students in grades seven and eight. Sixth grade students will be invited to participate on teams which have roster spots available.

    Many Middle School students are involved in the Middle School play, chorus, robotics, Tome Society and the academic bowl team. In addition to after school extracurriculars, all students will participate in a faculty sponsored club activity.
  • Q: How can I get other information about the school?

    The website is a wonderful resource to you, with calendars, information about special events, handbooks, and access to the Lion Portal. Parents also receive the weekly, online newsletter, the Very Informed Parent.  You should, however, always feel comfortable calling the school to talk with the teacher or with someone in the office. General questions can also be directed to the Communication Department via email or by calling 770-531-2657.
