WrAP writing test for grades 4, 6, 8

Various classrooms
Lakeview will be administering The ERB Writing Assessment Program (WrAP) which provides a direct measure of writing ability. Students in grades 4, 6, and 8 will produce a writing sample in response to a writing prompt. It is important that students arrive to school on time on these days. The test is given in two class sessions on two consecutive days. In the first session, students think about, make notes, and write a rough draft. During the second session, they produce a final response to the writing topic.

Unlike other instruments that provide only holistic scoring indices, the WrAP is scored analytically. WrAP uses a six-trait, six-point rubric to provide information that can help target instruction in writing. We are administering this assessment at 5 grade levels:
  • Elementary (Grade 4) Narrative Mode
  • Intermediate (Grade 6) Informative/Explanatory Mode
  • Middle (Grade 8) Expository/Explanatory Mode or Persuasive/Argument Mode
The writing samples will be evaluated externally by two of ERB’s writing experts, including grammar and writing conventions. Lakeview will use the results to improve instruction and to foster ongoing growth in the area of writing.
