Two Communities Come Together

Two weeks ago I mentioned that the Lakeview Community came together in two glorious but separate venues – on the football field and on the stage after Hurricane Zeta. Well, last Friday the two communities came together again, this time on the same stage to perform to the same audience. Students from fine arts sang, acted, and danced in front of an enthusiastic Lakeview football crowd before the game and during half-time. The game ended with a massive win for Lakeview, one that sent the Football team to the playoffs for the first time in the school’s history.
For Lakeview families, Friday night was an opportunity to see students that they might not normally see showing off their skills. It was a perfect example of integration between the divisions, proof that it is possible for every Lakeview student to successfully participate in a variety of athletic and performing...
...  activities and not be restricted to one or the other. For some parents it was even an opportunity to see their children sharing their passion for two very different extra-curricular activities at the same venue.
As we move forward I want to find additional ways to build meaningful bridges between activities and divisions - including academics and technology - and encourage Lakeview’s students to try things, to experiment, and to make mistakes as part of learning. It is through this process that students will find their passion for a sport, a hobby, an activity, an academic subject, and in some cases, their future career. In short, Lakeview has so much to offer its students – the key is to participate.

Wishing you a happy and safe Thanksgiving.
