Students Need Adults They Can Aspire to Be

Last Saturday my husband Chris and I drove to Warner Robbins High School to see Lakeview Academy's Fine Arts department perform Urinetown for the One Act Play. Lakeview placed as runner up in State (see below). The performance was magnificent, the students outstanding, and I sat beaming from ear to ear, proud to be associated with the students - cast and crew - and the faculty. Joe Harris, Cece Conrath, and the Fine Arts faculty moved heaven and earth to make the production possible. This past week, in a similar fashion, Lakeview's Basketball coaches, Coach Sanders and Coach Carrick have gone above and beyond to help the boys and girls Varsity teams reach their dream of the playoffs.

Students need motivators, coaches, mentors, and cheerleaders. They need role models, adults they can aspire to be, who teach them and believe in them. One such person is Brent Drury. I am writing today to share the news that...

...after thirty years of connection with the school, and twenty years of service to Lakeview Academy, Brent is retiring as Lower School Director, effective July 2021. Over the coming months there will be opportunities to thank Brent for his years of service to Lakeview and celebrate with him in his well-deserved retirement.

Brent's contribution to Lakeview is extensive. Brent first joined Lakeview in 1990, when he was hired by Ferrell Singleton as a 5th grade teacher. During his first tenure, Brent was also very invested in athletics, and served as the Head Baseball coach (starting Varsity Baseball at Lakeview), Head Varsity Volleyball coach, and MS and US Basketball coach. Brent returned to Lakeview in 2012, teaching 8th grade history and coaching Varsity Football and Basketball. From 2013-2014, Brent moved to Middle School administration, as assistant Middle School Director, and since 2015, Brent has been the Director of the Lower School. Brent led numerous summer trips overseas, and helped create for many students, parents, and faculty their fondest memories of Lakeview. Not only has Brent served as an outstanding administrator, teacher, coach, tour guide, and mentor, he is also parent to three Lakeview graduates - Tom '10, Nick '11, and Will '18. Brent has spent his entire career investing in the youth of Gainesville and Hall County, and Lakeview is lucky to have benefitted from his dedication, wisdom, good humo(ur), and passion for education. Students need role models - Brent Drury will be greatly missed by students, faculty, staff, and parents alike.
