A Vision for the Future

Last week was a much-needed week off school for students, faculty & staff, an opportunity to rest, spend time with family and friends at Thanksgiving, and generally catch up on life.  I went home to England to visit my family and friends (having not seen my father and brothers for three years due to the pandemic) and to top up my accent.  Although there was no one celebrating Thanksgiving in England (the Pilgrim Fathers were sailing away from England, not toward it), I did notice that the British were already in festive mood, with lights, Christmas trees, and images of Father Christmas all over the place. It reminded me that December is now upon us, and we will soon be ringing in the New Year. With this in mind, I wanted to share some exciting updates for 2022. As part of Lakeview's strategic vision for future growth, we made a series of investments in faculty and staff this academic year. Salaries and benefits were reviewed, and adjustments made to closer align with qualifications (we will continue to review these so that we are able to attract and retain the best faculty and staff). As well as filling existing positions, new positions were also created, including…
… the addition of three technology teachers and two part-time music instructors. On the security side, Officer Joe Britte was added as a full-time School Resource Officer, in athletics, Chandler Newton joined us as weight training coach, and Dr. Wade Hanse joined us as Dean of Academics & Instruction. On the admin side, the communications, marketing, enrollment, and development team was restructured, and one new position added — the much-needed Senior Director of Development. This role was created to lead the school’s strategic fundraising efforts, operationally oversee all capital campaigns, and develop strategies to generate higher levels of support so that we can make the much-needed investments in Lakeview's facilities and future. I am delighted to share that Amanda Willis started at Lakeview this month in this role. Many of you may know Amanda already, as she is very active in the Gainesville community. You can read more about Amanda below.

Amanda's arrival coincides with the completion of the first part of Lakeview's new strategic plan. The survey (which was sent out to the Lakeview community last month) garnered significant responses and follow-up focus groups will be scheduled next month, including groups looking at Lakeview's rebranding efforts. From there, the survey results and Lakeview's 2022 strategic plan, will be shared with the community. The new strategic plan will highlight the school's priorities, and act as a roadmap for the next few years. In addition, a feasibility study and campus plan will help guide much needed upgrades to Lakeview's facilities. Finally, the recent survey on Lakeview's summer camp offerings had high response rate, and we hope to share the results with the community in the next newsletter. Sincere thanks to all that took the time to share their thoughts about the school, its programs, and its priorities. The future looks very bright, and we all look forward to ringing in 2022.
