Jakob Duke Skeet State Champion, Lakeview 4th in State

High drama was on display at Forest City Gun Club this weekend as the Lakeview Clay Target team hit the clay fields for the state championship. On Friday, the team shot skeet with outstanding results. Jakob Duke shot 4 perfect rounds and ended with a score of 100. After a 23 in the first round, Joshua Davis ran off 75 straight to end with a 98. Andrew Booker and Kaleb Ginn shot their 1st 25s in competition and helped the Lions have a strong finish after the first day. On day two, the Lions shot sporting clays. In chilly conditions and on a challenging course, the senior team captains, Jakob Duke and Joshua Davis, put up strong numbers to finish 4 and 5th respectively. In the afternoon, the team shot trap and was led by Brody Calvert, who finished tied for 3rd. Under the lights, shoot-offs were held to break ties in skeet and trap. Jakob was up 1st and dispatched one competitor with two shots in the traditional doubles shoot-off format. Jakob Duke was declared the GIAA AAA Skeet State Champion. Shoot-offs resolved the other ties with mixed results and scores were tallied from the 48 schools and 580 competitors. Lakeview placed 4th as a team and logged their highest finish in the program's history. The results are even more remarkable considering that the Lakeview 7 were competing against teams with 20 or more shooters. Here is the final hardware count.

The entire team contributed and shot well as Andrew Booker, Kaleb Ginn, Knowles Thompson, and Jack Kirchner all shooting their personal bests in the State Championship.
