Community Service

The Lakeview Academy mission includes a partnership with the community. The goal of the partnership is to foster a sense of responsibility, citizenship, commitment, and service. Community Service is an integral part of the Lakeview curriculum.

All students are urged to participate in service to others at school, in their communities, and in the larger world. Lakeview sees service as one of the methods of learning about ourselves and our place in the world. Emphasis is placed on service directly to others rather than fund raising for others to administer far away.

Upper School students are required to complete 60 hours of community service for graduation. Students who complete twice that number of hours or more are graduated from Lakeview with service distinction.
“Volunteering at the food bank was an eye opening experience. I had never realized how many people couldn’t afford food. The food bank changed how I looked at everything. It’s encouraged me to not only do my 60 hours of Lakeview community service, but to do 120. Volunteering at the food bank made me want to help my community as much as I could. Packing food in a box is such a simple task, but it’s a small act that helps other people. ”
-Anna Caitlyn, 10th grade
