Andrew Estes

What grade did you enter Lakeview? 8th Grade

Sports played in high school:
Varsity and JV football freshman year
Varsity baseball four years

Fine arts programs in which you participated while in Upper School:
I was Spot Conlin in the play “Newsies” performed in the fall of 2019

Describe a meaningful experience you had while at Lakeview.
A meaningful experience of mine during my time at Lakeview was sophomore Trip Week. Coach Simpson made sophomore year a year to remember. From his raps on the bus to jumping on our beds to wake us up in the morning, his efforts to give us a fun experience did not go unnoticed. I also had the opportunity to get a lot closer with people that I had never spent time with before.

Teacher, coach or staff member at Lakeview who has made the biggest impact on you: It is hard to pick only one, but two men who have changed my life are Coach Roark and Coach Gruhn. From the day I started at Lakeview to my last high school baseball game, Coach Roark has always been there to support me. He continually pushes me to become the best athlete and young man that I can be. Along with Coach Roark’s support, Coach Gruhn pushed me every single day in the weight room. Every day he challenged me to better myself in any way I could.

Did you participate in anything outside of Lakeview?
I played travel baseball all my life because I wanted to play college baseball. I was scouted after my sophomore year and was blessed with an opportunity to play college baseball at Furman University.
[Update: After Furman cancelled their baseball program, Wofford College scooped Andrew up and he will play baseball as a Terrier.]

College you will attend in the fall: Wofford College

College degree or area of study: Engineering

Other than college, do you have any other plans after high school?
I hope to have the opportunity to play professional baseball.

Andrew, while I never had the chance to teach or coach you, you were always such a polite and respectful young man and always said hello with a smile. That's a quality not everyone possesses, but the world would be a better place if more people were like you. I wish you all the best as you move on to college.

Andrew ~ You are a remarkable young man. I am grateful that you and Andrew B. are friends and we have had the opportunity to get to know you. You are poised and confident beyond your years and very talented. I can’t wait to see where all that talent (and hard work) takes you! Congratulations!

Life sometimes throws us curveballs, but it’s part of the game. And what I have seen, you handle those pitches like a pro. This unfortunate time is one of those curve balls. Missing the fun part of your Senor year is something we can’t really can’t truly say “I know how you feel” because no one has experienced this! But I do know you have a whole life in front of you. And I know you will handle each challenge you face and hit that curve ball out of the park. Congratulations Andrew!

I so enjoyed your baseball career. Cannot wait to see the glove work at Furman and the stolen bases. Hope they will let you pitch. Behave yourself!
