Head of School Updates Families on Fall Achievements

On December 13, 2023, head of school John Simpson updated the Lakeview Family on the school's fall achievements:

The end of 2023 is only days away and with it the close of the first half of this academic year. As we reflect on this first semester, I am amazed at the connections taking place at Lakeview this year. Our new Lion Family program has connected students with one another and with staff, resulting in energy that is nothing short of remarkable. I firmly believe that this is just the start of something incredible.

In addition to our Lion Family, Lakeview took the opportunity of the new school year to revive several traditions, including book buddies and the upcoming international assembly in February, as well as introduce new community events like our Rock the Block series. As a result of these efforts to connect internally and with our community, Lakeview is attracting new applicants at a higher-than-average rate. Simply said, amazing things are happening at Lakeview!

The fall semester has been packed with student achievements that reflect our students’ talents as well as the dedication of our teachers and coaches.

Here are a few semester highlights:
  • Lakeview’s Advanced Placement (AP) program earned national recognition from the College Board due to the number of our students who take AP courses and earn college credit for them. Lakeview’s results place it in the top six percent nationally and in the top eight percent of the 475 eligible schools in Georgia. Wow!
  • Our drama troupe 3630 earned first place in the one-act region competition and brought home third-place honors in the state competition with their production of The SpongeBob Musical. If you saw the production at the downtown Brenau Center during its community run, you saw amazing talent on stage and behind the scenes.
  • At the GIAA clay target state championship Lakeview placed 4th out of 48 schools and Jakob Duke won the AAA Skeet State Championship. In addition, Jakob placed 3rd in overall high score, 4th in sporting, and was named to the All-State team along with Joshua Davis. Lakeview's team all shot their personal best at the championship. Congratulations!
  • All of the fall sports teams made it to the first round of their respective GIAA state tournaments. Our girls’ and boys’ basketball teams are already off to winning starts, and we expect great things from both. Watch for details about the annual Lanierland Basketball Tournament, which Lakeview will host on December 28.
It’s a great time to be a Lakeview Lion. I’m so grateful for our talented students, supportive parents and families, and our dedicated staff. As the administrative team looks forward to 2024, we see wonderful opportunities ahead for our school.

May you have a wonderful and joyful holiday season and Merry Christmas!

Sincerely,

John Simpson
Head of School
